Some of the world’s leading experts on innovation and management will be at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business Feb. 20 for a one-day symposium titled “Markets for Technology: Challenges and Opportunities.”

The conference, sponsored by Fuqua’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is free and open to the public, but space is limited. People are asked to register in advance at http://www.fuqua.duke.edu/event/ipconference/. The conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Fuqua’s Geneen Auditorium.

Among other topics at the conference, leaders in the operation of technology markets will examine the changes that have occurred in contracting, licensing and related practices over the past two decades, and anticipate what best practices will look like in the coming years.

Marshall Phelps, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel for intellectual property policy and strategy at the Microsoft Corp. and executive-in-residence at Fuqua, will speak on “Technology Markets: The Opportunities Ahead.” Linda Sanford, IBM’s senior vice president for enterprise on demand transformation and information technology, will deliver a second keynote address on “Collaborative Innovation.”

Panel discussions, designed to foster in-depth dialogue between speakers and audience, will cover “The Transformation of Technology Markets and Best Practices Looking Forward” and “Impediments to Technology Markets: What Are They, And What Can Firms and Governments Do?”
